The song used to be broadcast on Srilankan Radio. My collegemate K. G. Marcos (later playback singer) used to sing this song in Fatima College, Kollam. Somewhere in my old Akai spool tapes I should be having a recording of this song that Marcos came to my home and recorded around 1975. Unfortunately this great song has been wiped out from the Malayalam music circuit. We have to revive it! This lyric is the recollection from my memory of the song as sung by Marcos. Imtiaz Mohammed, a student of Fathima Matha National College, Quilon won the Best-Singer award for this particular song in the Kerala University Youth Festivals, continuously for 5 years, from 1975-76 to 1980-81, while he had completed LL.B. from the Kerala Law Academy Law College, Trivandrum. He had rendered this particular song in the category of Light Music(Lalitha Sangeetham). Further he was elevated as a Student Member representing Fine Arts in the Kerala University Senate. Now Mr. Imtiaz is a practicing Lawyer in the District Court Centre, Trivandrum and the Kerala High Court as well. To my knowledge he is having the original recording of the song composed in Yemen-kalyan Raga. Pls note CRK Nair was the Producer of the film Bhajagovindam and Hariharan was the Director of the film. But only the recording of songs for this film was done and the shooting has never been started. This particular song was popularised by Mr.Imtiaz as this was the usual first song sung by him in all his stage performances. In fact, at the Fatima College, youth festival, once they both sang the same song in the competition and Imtiaz came first. If you have contact with Imtiaz, firstly could you ask him to share the old recording with this interest group. Once the original recording is available, we can get the present youngsters, like competitors on one of the reality shows, to sing the song in the light music category. That way the song will come back in the Malayalam music circuit. There is whole generation of enthusiastic singers and musicians out there who have never heard the song. There is nothing to be concerned about the sharing of the recording, as the song's copyright period would have expired anyway. It is also good to have it come back to the circuit when MG Radhakrishnan and Bichu Thirumala are still around to take credit for such a commendable work, which is almost extinct, other than in the minds of a few of us. I recently spoke to one of Kairali TV's directors about this song. He recalls it word for word.
